Dolce Hello from Tom & Cindy Gobi (Dolce) is settling in really well. He has had more training than we expected. He knows sit, come, no -- he found the back door easily to ask to go out. No accidents so far. He is a little food finicky**, but we were prepared for that possibility. He ended up eating a big healthy supper. We discovered he likes carrots but doesn’t care for peas or bananas. Trying blueberries later. We got the simple blend kibble for small dogs from Blue Buffalo to start him off (the rep from the food co was there and gave us some big coupons). Haven’t found a treat he likes, but I think bits of carrot will do nicely for training treats. We took the kennel out of the closet – it was stuff with beds for storage. He was excited to see it and tried to dig beside the beds to get in it immediately. Check – kennel training not an issue. He went into it on his own to go to bed when we retired for the night. He got his first walk around the neighborhood this morning – he’s a little tuggy on the leash, but no sweat. He was just excited. Once he’s king of the neighborhood we will be he struts instead of zooms. He meets “the sitters” today (my parents). He’s pretty clinging as he figures things out – and that’s way better than stand off-ish or hiding. He’s got quite a sweet and playful personality. And he smiles. Often. He finally barked. Once. LOL! We just love him so much. Thank you for helping us make the match. Cindy & Tom Dong **We are assuming he didn’t not get dental done because they wouldn’t do that during kennel cough. We are going to get him scheduled for dental right away in case that is the reason for him shying away from foods / treats.
Dolce Gobi is doing well. He is comical and very affectionate. He lives for his walks twice a day, is a good eater and his indoor behavior has been nearly perfect. When we were told he probably has Brussels Griffon in him, that person hit the nail on the head. He sticks to Tom like Velcro - and to me when Tom is not home. He is obeys and loves us both but Tom is his boo. The term âself importantâ in the Brussels Griffon description fits Gobi to a tee. It makes him stubborn for training, but he always comes around. We think his last family probably lived in an apartment because our biggest training challenge has been getting him to eliminate in the back yard. Poor baby thinks he needs to hold it til time to walk! He is so good, too good, lol! He cannot fathom messing the back yard. We have some pro help and heâs coming around. Itâs so cool when you see the little light bulb over his head when he figures something out. Vet told us on his initial visit that he is 2lbs underweight. We have managed to add 4 ounces in 3 weeks. The weight will need to go on slow and healthy. What a wonderful and amazing adventure. He has brought us so much joy. |
